Children's knitwear sourcing requires balancing daily wear durability with superior comfort. Fresh-Craft operates a comprehensive sourcing network across Tirupur, India, and Dhaka, Bangladesh, to supply global brands with high-quality children's knitwear, including basic tees, polos, zip-up hoodies, active joggers, and fully-fashioned sweaters. By expanding our facilities for children's clothing sourcing Bangladesh, we source premium carded and combed cotton, Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) cotton, and blended yarns such as cotton-elastane for stretch and recovery, cotton-polyester for durability, and sustainable bamboo viscose. Our vertical partner mills feature advanced circular knitting machines capable of producing jersey, interlock, rib, waffle, French terry, and heavy brushed fleece.
We source knits in a wide range of yarn counts, typically ranging from 20s and 30s single jersey for lightweight everyday tees to 40s double-knit interlocks for premium newborn sleepwear. Our circular knitting partners utilize advanced German-made machinery (such as Terrot and Mayer & Cie) to ensure consistent stitch density and eliminate fabric skewing or spirality after washing. Every fabric lot is tested to AATCC and ISO standards for burst strength, print durability, and color bleeding.
Durability is a critical factor for children's active playwear. We implement strict testing standards to ensure that all knit fabrics withstand repeated laundering without losing shape or color. We audit every Oeko-Tex children's clothing factory in our network to confirm that all dyes, pigments, and auxiliaries are free from harmful chemicals. Every fabric batch is tested for dimensional stability (shrinkage) and must fall within a strict +/- 3% tolerance limit. We perform extensive colorfastness testing to grades 4 and above for washing, perspiration, and dry/wet rubbing. Our dye houses utilize advanced color spectrophotometers and standardized lightboxes (using D65, TL84, and CWF light sources) to guarantee exact color matching (within Delta E < 1.0 limits) and color consistency across production lots, eliminating shade variations between garment panels.
The construction of children's knits must accommodate rapid movement and frequent washing. We specify reinforced double-needle cover-stitching on necklines, shoulders, and hems to prevent seam unraveling. Neck tape is added to back necklines to reinforce shape and improve comfort. For activewear and fleece hoodies, we integrate premium rib trims with 5% elastane content, ensuring cuffs and waistbands retain their elasticity. To comply with strict international safety codes such as EN 14682, we completely eliminate functional drawstrings in the hood and neck areas of garments intended for children under 12 years, replacing them with safe alternatives like mock-drawstrings or secure snap buttons.
For sweaters and heavier winter wear, we utilize fully-fashioned flatbed knitting machines ranging from 7GG (gauge) for chunky textures to 12GG for fine-knit layering. This automated process minimizes yarn waste by knitting panels directly to shape, reducing cut-and-sew waste by up to 15%. All yarn lots are pre-shrunk and conditioned before knitting to prevent post-wash distortion and ensure a stable, comfortable fit.
Quality assurance in our knitwear supply chain is managed by our dedicated local quality control teams. We conduct inline inspections during the cutting, sewing, and printing phases to detect construction defects early. We test print durability using dry and wet crocking tests, ensuring that plastisol, water-based, and discharge screen prints do not peel or crack. Our partner factories employ modern fabric finishing equipment, including compactors and bio-polishing enzyme washes, to eliminate surface fuzz and prevent pilling (Grade 4 minimum rating). This guarantees that the garments retain their premium soft feel even after multiple retail washes.
By placing production in Tirupur, India, we leverage the region's abundant organic cotton supply and vertical integration, which allows for fast proto development and competitive pricing on design-led runs. For high-volume basic knit programs, we utilize our vetted factories in Dhaka and Chittagong, Bangladesh, taking advantage of duty-free trade corridors to the EU, UK, and Canada. Our multi-country setup ensures that we can scale production smoothly from low-MOQ premium collections to large-volume retail programs.
