Sourcing children's sweaters and knitwear requires managing stitch tension, yarn blends, and seam construction to ensure durability and soft comfort. Fresh-Craft coordinates flatbed fully fashioned sweater programs through vetted mills in Tirupur, India, and Dhaka, Bangladesh. Fully fashioned knitting is our preferred method for kids' cardigans, pullovers, and knit beanies. This technology knits each panel directly to shape (front, back, and sleeves), reducing cut-and-sew fabric waste by up to 15% and ensuring consistent fit sizing across bulk runs. We work with gauges ranging from 12GG for lightweight spring layering to 7GG for chunky, textured winter knitwear.
Yarn purity is key for children's sensitive skin. We source only GOTS-certified organic cotton yarns, Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) cotton, and premium blends such as cotton-cashmere or cotton-wool. All yarns are pre-conditioned and tested for color bleeding, wash shrinkage (dim stability under +/- 3%), and pilling resistance (Grade 4 minimum rating). Our partners use modern flatbed knitting machinery (such as Stoll and Shima Seiki) to program detailed stitch patterns, including cable knits, pointelle, intarsia, and multi-color jacquards.
The construction of children's sweaters requires specialized seaming. We specify link seaming (also known as dial-linking) for necklines and shoulders, which creates flat, elastic seams that do not rub or restrict movement. To comply with international safety regulations, we enforce a strict policy on hardware safety. Zippers are lined with inner fabric protectors to prevent skin pinching, and buttons are secured using lockstitch machines. Once fully assembled, 100% of finished sweaters undergo conveyor metal detection scanning to check for needle fragments before polybag consolidation.
